Local-first

People Pfirst is a new kind of local organization. Built around working people, families, seniors, and everyone who's been priced out of the conversation, it's a grassroots coalition organizing year-round for concrete change in Pflugerville.

Our focus is local: city council, school boards, county races, bonds, and the policy decisions that determine what it costs to live here. Affordable housing, utility rates, transparent budgets, and a real seat at the table for everyone who calls this community home.

"Progressive as PF" is our rallying identity. A nod to the city we love and an honest signal about where we stand. We're not here to be polite about it.

Vision

Where We're
Headed

A Pflugerville where democracy works, power is broadly shared, working people, families, and seniors can afford to build a life, and decisions are shaped by the people who live, work, and learn here.

Mission

How We
Get There

Build lasting local power by expanding civic participation, developing a strong bench of future leaders, and organizing year-round for practical progress in Pflugerville. We do this through civic education, accessibility, and leadership development that empowers working people, families, seniors, and people with all abilities.

What We Stand For

Built on
Values,
Not Access.

We measure success by material improvements in people's lives, not by proximity to power. Here's what drives the work.

01

Economic Dignity

Fair wages, affordable housing, accessible healthcare. These aren't privileges. They're foundations that make freedom meaningful for working people and families.

02

Accountable Government

Transparent, democratic governance at every level. We push back against closed-door decision-making, conflicts of interest, and the influence of money in politics, including within our own organization.

03

Government That Works

Public institutions, when accountable and well-run, are among the most powerful tools a community has. We reject the idea that government is inherently ineffective or that markets always know best.

04

Solidarity Across Difference

Working people across lines of race, ethnicity, religion, and background share more in common than divides them. Our coalition is built on that common ground, while recognizing that historic injustices have fallen unevenly and must be addressed directly.

05

Community Over Donors

We take direction from members and constituents, not from major donors, political insiders, or gatekeepers. We measure success by material improvements in people's lives, not access to power for its own sake.

06

Civic Courage

We'll challenge entrenched interests, name conflicts of interest plainly, and take positions that may be unpopular with party leadership or allied organizations when our values demand it. Good politics sometimes requires friction.

07

Fiscal Responsibility

Budgets should be transparent, disciplined, and focused on outcomes that reduce cost burdens on working families — especially housing, utilities, and essential services. We support smart investment, oppose waste, and backroom deals.

08

Local Roots, Broad Vision

We focus on what we can do here — in Pflugerville and Travis County — while understanding that local decisions connect to state and national forces. We act locally with that bigger picture in mind.

09

Open Organization

Members can raise concerns, disagree with leadership, and advocate for change without fear of retaliation. We actively create space for dissenting voices and honest disagreement. An organization that silences its own members can't credibly fight for the community it serves.

How We Organize

Stand for Something

Issues and
Accountability

Issue campaigns, civic education, and accountability work. We take on one or two priority campaigns at a time and see them through. We don't just name problems; we push for specific, measurable outcomes that affect the cost of living here.

Step Up for Something

Leadership
Pipeline

We recruit and develop people year-round for elected and appointed roles. Whether it's the city council, school board, county office, or advisory positions like boards, commissions, and MUD boards, we connect candidates to training, tools, and ground-game support.

Show Up for Something

Voter Registration
and Turnout

Voter registration, election information, and field activation. We do this year-round, not just in the weeks before an election. We expand the universe of engaged voters, especially in communities that have historically been priced out of local influence.

How We Work

People Pfirst operates through two distinct lanes with separate budgets and a clear firewall between them. One is open to everyone in the community. The other is explicitly progressive and electoral.

Nonpartisan Civic Work

Civic Education and Voter Engagement

Open to every Pflugerville resident, regardless of party. This work is about expanding participation, not filtering it.

  • Voter registration drives and election information
  • Candidate forums and issue education before local elections
  • Civic readiness — boards, commissions, MUD boards, appointed roles
  • Community leadership development and training
  • Turnout programs for underrepresented neighborhoods

This work is offered to the entire community and is not conditioned on party affiliation or support for any candidate or organization.

Progressive Electoral Work

Candidate and Issue Support

Explicitly progressive. We support Democrats and aligned candidates in local general elections, and we back propositions and issues consistent with our values.

  • Endorsements for aligned candidates in city, school board, and county races
  • Field support — data, canvassing, ground-game capacity
  • Message and communications coaching for endorsed candidates
  • Coalition coordination and allied endorsement support
  • Ballot proposition and local issue campaigns

Electoral activities are conducted separately from civic education work, with separate budgets and in compliance with applicable Texas law.
